DP Photo Challenge – Boundaries

In response to The Daily Post’s weekly photo challenge: “Boundaries.”

USB port

This boundary is causing me an absolute nightmare at the moment. My external hard drive used to take its power through this USB port from my laptop. However, on Thursday the hard drive decided to stop working. Whether the failure was caused by the port or the laptop, or just because, I don’t know.

I am waiting to find out whether my files can be saved. Unfortunately I don’t appear to have backed up anything from it recently other than photos, and it has years and years of personal stuff and work files on it. The makers very kindly decided to use a different connector to the rest of the industry, so it may be very difficult (for this, read prohibitively expensive) to get it back. The initial payout is 3 figures as it is, but I have files that represent hundreds of hours work. I have to try and hope.

My copy of Mum’s recipes is on there. Wedding and baby planning is on there. Hundreds of scores and sound files I have created are on there. All my work from this year and the last 16 years of my teaching career is on there. And countless other files. Some is backed up. But I think I may have made a massive mistake and not backed up for the last 3 years.

Fingers crossed for the next 10 days or so until I find out…
